Kerala is expediting land acquisition to support the industrial development planned around Vizhinjam Port, which is expected to commence EXIM cargo operations by December 2025.
The state government has instructed Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd. (VISL) and related agencies to accelerate the process and submit identified land parcels for Cabinet approval at the earliest. A total of 2,700 acres across Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts has been earmarked, including 700 acres identified by VISL and 2,000 acres proposed by the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) and the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The land will be critical for developing logistics infrastructure such as container yards, truck terminals, and warehouses.
To ensure timely readiness before the port becomes operational, the land acquisition process is being fast-tracked. Additionally, a ₹360-crore four-loop interchange project is under consideration for the port approach road, which will require approximately 30 acres. The state government aims to finalise all necessary approvals promptly to meet project timelines and support the region’s broader industrialisation strategy.
