Twin Wings: Mumbai’s Two Airports to be Linked by ₹22,862 Cr Metro

The Maharashtra Cabinet Infrastructure Committee has approved a 35-km Metro corridor connecting Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, at an estimated cost of ₹22,862 crore.

The proposed Metro Line 8 will have 20 stations, comprising six underground and 14 elevated stations. Land acquisition for the project will cover 30.7 hectares and is estimated to cost ₹388 crore.

The corridor will include a 9.25-km underground stretch from Mumbai Airport Terminal 2 to Ghatkopar East, followed by a 24.63-km elevated section from Ghatkopar West to Navi Mumbai Airport Terminal 2, providing seamless airport-to-airport connectivity.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that land acquisition and all statutory approvals be completed within six months, with construction targeted for completion within three years. In addition to the Metro project, the committee also cleared the Nashik city ring road project and approved the upgradation of roads in Gadchiroli district to improve mineral transportation.
