Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the final stretch of Phase II of the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro on January 11, marking the completion of a key mass transit link between the two cities.
The newly commissioned 7.8 km section, running from Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir, adds seven stations and significantly enhances Metro access across major residential and administrative areas. With this extension, seamless Metro connectivity is now available along the entire 28 km corridor from Motera in Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi flagged off the Metro service from Mahatma Mandir station in the presence of Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
The expanded network is expected to benefit residents across nearly 20 sectors in Gandhinagar and provide direct access to around 60 government offices, reducing dependence on private transport. The Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar Metro, which has been rolled out in phases since 2022, has witnessed steady growth in ridership, currently averaging about 1.6 lakh commuters per day.
