Patna’s New Lifeline: Mithapur–Mahuli Road Nears Completion

The Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC) is aiming to complete the four-lane Mithapur–Mahuli elevated road project ahead of schedule.

The push follows the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) approval for the construction of a flyover on NH-31 near the new bypass. A senior BSRDC official said the corporation’s Managing Director, Shirsat Kapil Ashok, is closely monitoring the project to ensure completion by August this year, with additional support from Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit to expedite execution.

Originally approved in 2020, the project encountered multiple delays due to design revisions and procedural bottlenecks, including a year-long wait for NHAI clearance. “The NHAI had raised design-related concerns, but approval has now been granted and pillar construction is underway,” the official said.

Once completed, the elevated road is expected to significantly decongest the Patna–Gaya corridor and improve overall connectivity, leading to substantial reductions in travel time. The first phase of the project was inaugurated in June 2025, and construction is currently progressing on the second phase.
