Thiruvananthapuram Airport's $1,300 Crore Makeover

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is set to undergo a significant infrastructure upgrade under Project Anantha, with the ₹600 crore first phase of airside development expected to commence in the coming weeks.

Awarded to ITD Cementation India and subcontracted to ULCCS, the project includes reconstruction of the Terminal 2 apron, redesigned airside drainage for improved monsoon resilience, additional check-in counters at Terminal 1, and the creation of a new knowledge centre. Supporting infrastructure such as new ATC buildings, hangars, and emergency rescue facilities will also be developed.

Operator Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL) has committed a total investment of ₹1,300 crore to expand the airport’s passenger capacity from 3.2 million to nearly 12 million annually. A portion of the funding comes from a USD 750 million external commercial borrowing raised for upgrades across six Adani-managed airports.

While airside work is moving forward, city-side components—including an underground parking structure and a five-star hotel—are delayed due to pending environmental clearance. The revised master plan is currently under review by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
