Thirst No More: Mandrem’s ₹64 Crore Solution Nears Completion

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the long-standing drinking water crisis in the Mandrem constituency is nearing resolution, with the 30 MLD water treatment plant at Tuem expected to become operational by March.

The Chief Minister made the statement during a high-level inspection of the Rs 64 crore facility, accompanied by Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar. He said the project is being fast-tracked to meet the peak summer demand. The Tuem water treatment plant is a key part of the state government’s efforts to address a 50 MLD water deficit in North Goa. Once commissioned, the plant will draw raw water from the Tillari reservoir and significantly enhance water availability in the region.

Currently, residents of Mandrem receive piped water for only about 30 minutes on alternate days, leading to persistent hardship. The new facility is expected to initially ensure a minimum of 12 hours of water supply daily, representing a major improvement in living conditions.

Emphasising the importance of timely completion, CM Sawant said the government is closely monitoring the project’s progress to ensure it is delivered as promised. “The water treatment plant will be operational by March,” he said.
