Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate Ranipet district’s first car manufacturing plant at the SIPCOT industrial complex in Panapakkam village on February 9, marking a significant industrial milestone for the region.
Ahead of the inauguration, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles and Ranipet MLA R. Gandhi inspected the preparations along with District Collector J.U. Chandrakala and Superintendent of Police Ayman Jamal. District authorities are undertaking civic works, including relaying the bitumen road leading to the SIPCOT complex and removing uneven speed breakers, to ensure smooth traffic movement during the Chief Minister’s visit.
The Rs 9,000 crore project, spread over 470 acres, will house a joint manufacturing facility of Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors. The plant will be the first in India to manufacture luxury Jaguar Land Rover models, including electric vehicles, along with select Tata Motors models. The facility will produce components for both domestic and international markets and is expected to generate around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
In addition, a Rs 400 crore footwear park is also being developed in the district, further strengthening the region’s industrial ecosystem.
