Tata Power's ₹11,000 Cr Pune Hydro Push

Tata Power has announced plans to invest ₹11,000 crore in a Pumped Hydro Storage Project (PSP) at Shirawta, Pune, reinforcing its commitment to advancing India’s renewable energy infrastructure.

Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in July 2025 and will be completed over a five-year period, with a 70:30 debt–equity structure. The initiative is part of Tata Power’s broader collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra to develop two PSP projects with a combined capacity of 2,800 MW in the state.

The announcement was made by Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power, during the Distribution Utility Meet in Mumbai. The Shirawta project is poised to play a critical role in enhancing energy storage capacity, stabilising renewable power supply, and supporting Maharashtra’s transition to a sustainable and reliable energy future.

The move follows the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed last year between Tata Power and the Government of Maharashtra to jointly develop large-scale PSP facilities aimed at boosting the state’s renewable energy ecosystem.
