Tata Power is in talks with the Odisha government to set up a 10 GW ingots and wafers manufacturing facility, with an estimated investment of around ₹10,000 crore.
Currently operating with a 4.55 GW capacity for solar cells and modules, Tata Power plans to integrate ingot and wafer production into its solar panel manufacturing for both domestic and export markets. Ingots and wafers serve as essential raw materials for solar cells and semiconductor chips. The company is considering Gopalpur and Cuttack as potential sites, both offering the advantage of port proximity.
CEO Praveer Sinha highlighted that this backward integration will cater to Tata Power’s own requirements as well as the wider industry demand. The project is still in the early planning stages. He added, “Tata Power believes there will be sufficient supply of cells and modules, considering the demand-supply scenario in the country.”
