Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has inaugurated Bigtech’s new manufacturing facility in Pillaipakkam, Kancheepuram district, near Chennai.
Bigtech—a joint venture between US-based Corning and India’s Optiemus—has invested ₹1,003 crore in the plant, which will manufacture Gorilla Glass for smartphones. CM Stalin expressed confidence that the project will spur industrial growth, attract additional investments, and create high-quality employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
He highlighted Tamil Nadu’s transparent and efficient investment processes, which have strengthened investor confidence, and reiterated the state’s leadership in India’s electronics sector. The Chief Minister also noted Tamil Nadu’s strong position in electronics exports and its ambition to become a global electronics manufacturing hub, supported by the launch of a new sector-specific policy.
