SJVN has successfully synchronised the first 660 MW unit of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project (BTPP) with the National Grid, marking a key milestone ahead of commercial operations.
Located in Chausa, Buxar (Bihar), the project has been developed by SJVN Thermal Pvt. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN. Built at a cost of ₹13,756.56 crore, the plant employs supercritical technology to ensure improved thermal efficiency and reduced emissions.
The BTPP is expected to generate approximately 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually, with 85% of the power earmarked for Bihar, significantly improving the state’s electricity availability and reducing peak-hour deficits.
Bhupender Gupta, CMD of SJVN, called the synchronisation “a testament to the dedication and tireless efforts of our project team and all stakeholders,” adding that the project will play a vital role in meeting India’s growing energy demand and fostering economic growth in Bihar and the eastern region.
