Sion Bridge Relief in Sight: May 2026 Deadline Set for Completion

The BMC and Central Railway (CR) have set 31 May 2026 as the completion deadline for the long-delayed Sion East–West railway overbridge in Mumbai.

The century-old bridge has been shut since August 2024, causing major inconvenience to commuters and residents, including those accessing nearby schools, hospitals, and colleges. To ensure safety during demolition, a foot overbridge was opened in October 2024, enabling pedestrian movement while work continued.

In a review meeting led by Additional Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar, officials confirmed key project milestones, such as finishing the underpasses by early 2026 and carrying out girder launching in March–April 2026.

“If all activities progress as scheduled, the bridge will be fully completed by May 31, 2026, and opened to traffic on June 1, 2026,” Bangar said.
