SCCL Stores the Sun: 1 MW BESS Rolls Out in Mandamarri

State-owned Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) has advanced its solar power storage and conservation efforts by deploying a battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Mandamarri area in Mancherial district, Telangana.

The mining company has installed a 1 MW experimental BESS unit, integrated with its 28 MW solar power plant in Mandamarri, at an estimated cost of ₹2.73 crore. The system is expected to capture around 9.1 lakh units of otherwise unused solar energy annually, potentially saving up to ₹70 lakh per year. The unit is slated for commissioning soon, marking a significant step in SCCL’s energy efficiency initiatives.

Buoyed by this success, SCCL plans to expand BESS installations at other suitable locations across its coal mining areas. The company currently operates solar plants totaling 245.5 MW across the coal belt, underlining its commitment to renewable energy integration and sustainable power management.
