ONGC Chairman Arun Kumar Singh, along with Director (Technology & Field Services) Vikram Saxena and Cochin Shipyard (CSL) CMD Madhu S Nair, reviewed the ongoing dry-docking and major refit of ONGC’s Jack-Up Rig Sagar Kiran at Cochin Shipyard.
Senior officials from both organisations attended the visit, which showcased the extensive modernisation aimed at upgrading the rig to Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) 89 compliance. The project involves steel renewal, pipe replacements, accommodation improvements, and overhauls of critical drilling and safety systems to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and offshore readiness. CSL’s leadership provided detailed updates on progress, highlighting key milestones and the shipyard’s enhanced dry-dock and repair capabilities in Kochi.
The Sagar Kiran refit is a key part of ONGC’s broader strategy to modernise its offshore fleet, strengthen asset reliability, and ensure safe, efficient, and compliant energy exploration operations. The project is progressing steadily toward completion.
