₹200 Crore Lifeline: Reviving Sangareddy’s Manjeera Water Legacy

Efforts are underway to improve drinking water supply in Sangareddy town, Telangana, with proposals worth ₹200 crore being prepared to strengthen the Manjeera water scheme. The plans were discussed at a review meeting attended by former MLA T. Jagga Reddy and officials from multiple departments, focusing on addressing infrastructure gaps and enhancing supply systems.

During the meeting, Jagga Reddy highlighted the severe water challenges faced by residents before the Manjeera scheme was introduced during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, with an initial investment of ₹230 crore. He noted that despite the launch of Mission Bhagiratha in 2014, the Manjeera system in Sangareddy has deteriorated over the past decade and now requires urgent upgrades.

The proposed plan includes ₹175 crore for strengthening urban water infrastructure and ₹25 crore for constructing a new intake well at the Manjeera dam. Key components of the project include building eight additional storage tanks, laying around 50 km of new distribution pipelines, and setting up a new filtration system.

The proposals are expected to be finalised ahead of the Chief Minister’s proposed visit, with project execution likely to begin in 2027 and completion targeted by 2028.
