Lanxess Invests ₹150 Crore in India’s Lubricant Future

German specialty chemicals company Lanxess inaugurated a new blending plant at its manufacturing site in Jhagadia, Gujarat, on April 24, 2026.

The facility, developed as part of the first phase, will produce a range of specialty lubricant additives from the company’s portfolio. With an investment of շուրջ ₹150 crore, the plant is designed to serve customers in India, the Middle East, and other key global markets, with a focus on safety, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible operations.

Lanxess also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) to introduce advanced technologies in India. The collaboration will focus on lubricant solutions for sectors such as metalworking, refrigeration, and railway engine brake fluids.

In addition, the company has commenced third-party manufacturing for its Lubricant Additives Business Unit in India, marking a significant step in expanding its presence in the country’s lubrication solutions market.

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Neelanjan Banerjee, Senior Vice President and Global Head of the Lubricant Additives business unit, said the investment builds on the establishment of the unit’s Application Technology Centre in Thane in 2025. The new blending plant becomes the 13th manufacturing site for the business unit globally.
