Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured a Letter of Acceptance from Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for the Captive Power Plant (CPP) Package No. CPP-1. The package forms part of SAIL’s 4.08 MTPA Cold Strip (CS) expansion project at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur.
The turnkey order covers design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, transportation, unloading, storage, erection, commissioning, and performance guarantee testing of the power plant, excluding civil works.
The contract, awarded through a domestic and global competitive bidding process, is valued between ₹1,200 crore and ₹1,500 crore (excluding GST). BHEL is expected to complete the commissioning within 39 months from the effective date of the contract.
According to the company, the project further strengthens BHEL’s position in executing large-scale power infrastructure projects and supporting capacity expansion in India’s steel sector.
