Road Dept Accelerates Work on ₹23-Crore Lakhisarai-Patna Bypass

The Road Construction Department of Bihar has accelerated work on a greenfield bypass road project aimed at improving connectivity between Lakhisarai and Patna districts.

The 10-km bypass, stretching from BNM College Ghat in Barhiya to Maranchi, will pass through Maharani Sthan, Panchmahala, Nauranga, and Dumra, providing an alternative route for heavy vehicles and easing traffic congestion. The project will be executed in three phases, with the first phase covering 4.7 km scheduled to start in 2024–25 at a cost of ₹23.21 crore, with completion expected within 12 months. The phased approach is designed to ensure efficient management of time, cost, and quality.

Once completed, the bypass is expected to reduce pressure on National Highways, facilitate smoother movement of goods, and shorten travel times. Announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in February 2025 in response to local demands, the project is also anticipated to stimulate economic growth in the region. Alok Kumar Thakur, Executive Engineer, noted that strict quality standards will be maintained and timely completion is a top priority.
