Indian Railways has sanctioned a ₹206 crore project to implement Kavach Version 4.0, the country's indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, across 680 route kilometres of the Rewari–Delhi and Shakurbasti–Bathinda sections, along with associated branch lines under Northern Railway.
The project forms part of Indian Railways' ongoing nationwide rollout of Kavach to strengthen train safety across high-density and critical rail corridors. The advanced signalling system is designed to prevent Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents and reduce the risk of train collisions by continuously monitoring train operations and automatically applying brakes whenever necessary.
Kavach Version 4.0 also enables trains to operate safely at permissible speeds while improving reliability during adverse weather conditions such as dense fog. The deployment is expected to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen signalling infrastructure, and improve the safety and reliability of both passenger and freight services on these strategically important routes.
