The Union Cabinet has approved Phase-2 of the Pune Metro Rail Project, with a total investment of ₹3,626.24 crore. This phase will extend the existing Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor (developed under Phase-1) by adding two new elevated corridors: Corridor 2A (Vanaz to Chandani Chowk) and Corridor 2B (Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi).
Together spanning 12.75 km, the extensions will feature 13 new stations and enhance connectivity to rapidly growing suburban areas, including Bavdhan, Kothrud, Kharadi, Chandani Chowk, and Wagholi. The project is slated for completion within four years and will be jointly funded by the Government of India, the Government of Maharashtra, and external bilateral/multilateral funding agencies.
A key highlight is the seamless integration of the new corridors at the District Court Interchange Station with Line-1 (Nigdi–Katraj) and Line-3 (Hinjewadi–District Court), facilitating a comprehensive, multimodal transport network across Pune.
Projected daily ridership on the extended Line 2 is expected to reach approximately 96,000 by 2027, growing to 2.01 lakh in 2037, 2.87 lakh in 2047, and 3.49 lakh by 2057—reflecting robust long-term demand for urban mass transit in the city.
