Powering the Future: PGCIL's Khavda RE Zone Project Completed

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) has successfully completed the Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) project to integrate renewable energy from Gujarat’s Khavda RE zone.

The project, officially titled “Transmission Network Expansion for Integration of RE Projects from Khavda Potential RE Zone”, was executed through the SPV Powergrid Khavda RE Transmission System at a cost of ₹953 crore. It involved the construction of a 765kV double-circuit transmission line covering approximately 270 circuit kilometers (ckm) from Banaskantha to Ahmedabad. Initially scheduled for completion in March 2025, the project was commissioned in July 2025 following a four-month delay.

Awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) by RECPDCL, the project will generate annual transmission charges of ₹77.327 crore.

Also in July, PGCIL commissioned a 44 ckm, 400kV double-circuit line—the Line-In Line-Out (LILO) of the Agra–Jaipur line at Dausa—under Powergrid Beawar Dausa Transmission Ltd. This line is part of the ₹1,910 crore Phase III, Part H Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) evacuation scheme, which aims to deliver 651 ckm of transmission lines and 3,000 MVA transformation capacity. PGCIL had acquired this project in October 2023 through TBCB.
