On August 25, Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath laid the foundation stone for the reconductoring of nine 132 kV transmission lines with high-temperature low-sag (HTLS) conductors at Bodhjung Nagar near Agartala.
The ₹126.33-crore project, led by Tripura Power Transmission Ltd (TPTL) and funded under the Ministry of DoNER’s Special Infrastructure Development Project, aims to modernize the state's power infrastructure and ensure reliable electricity supply. Minister Nath emphasized that uninterrupted power is critical to Tripura’s development, with demand expected to reach 700 MW by 2031–32.
Since 2018, the number of 132 kV substations has increased from 12 to 20, with two more under construction. Similarly, 33 kV substations have grown from 44 to 75. Currently, the state supplies power for an average of 23 hours a day, despite ongoing challenges such as overloading and weather-related disruptions.
Highlighting the shift toward clean energy, the Minister announced the launch of electric train services at Agartala Railway Station starting August 27 and reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting the PM Surya Ghar solar rooftop scheme.
