Powering Green Construction: The Coromandel-Sakarni Partnership

Coromandel Chemicals, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Coromandel International, has entered into a joint venture with Sakarni Plaster to manufacture and market Phospho Gypsum-based green building materials.

This strategic move marks Coromandel's diversification beyond agri-inputs into sustainable construction solutions. The joint venture will leverage Coromandel’s manufacturing strength and Sakarni’s leadership in gypsum-based products to drive innovation and efficiency in the green building sector.

Aligned with the Government of India’s circular economy and sustainability goals, the initiative represents the country's first large-scale effort to produce eco-friendly construction materials using Phospho Gypsum—a by-product of fertilizer manufacturing—thus reducing reliance on natural gypsum mining.

The manufacturing facility will be established in Visakhapatnam, adjacent to Coromandel’s fertilizer plant, ensuring a steady, cost-effective supply of raw material. The venture also supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission by promoting domestic production, minimizing imports, and enabling responsible industrial waste utilization.

With growing demand for sustainable and affordable construction materials, this partnership is well-positioned to make a significant impact in India's green building landscape.
