Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (POWERGRID) and Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up the “POWERGRID Centre of Excellence” at PEC. Funded through POWERGRID’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the centre aims to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in the power and energy sector.
The signing ceremony was presided over by UT Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, who highlighted the partnership’s strategic role in enhancing India’s energy security and supporting the nation’s transition toward a net-zero emissions future, in line with the Viksit Bharat vision.
Designed to serve undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students, the Centre of Excellence will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure and focus on advanced skill development and research. Key areas of training and innovation will include numerical relays, inverters, cybersecurity, e-mobility, and related technologies.
The MoU was formally signed by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director (Northern Region-II), POWERGRID, and Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director (ad-interim), PEC. The event was also attended by Ravinder Kumar Tyagi, Chairman & Managing Director of POWERGRID and a proud PEC alumnus, who reaffirmed the company’s commitment to fostering technical education. Prerna Puri, UT Secretary (Education), was also present at the ceremony.
