PNGRB and DVGW: Forging a Global Standard for Green Gas

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) to develop a framework for integrating hydrogen into India’s gas infrastructure.

The MoU was signed by Indian Ambassador to Germany Ajit Vinayak Gupte and German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. DVGW, a leading German organization for gas and water infrastructure, plays a key role in establishing technical rules and standards for gas and hydrogen systems.

The partnership aims to support evidence-based regulations for hydrogen blending in natural gas and prepare for the future repurposing of existing gas systems. “This collaboration will provide regulatory clarity and facilitate the integration of hydrogen into India’s energy infrastructure,” stated PNGRB. The MoU also includes knowledge exchange and access to DVGW’s technical standards to help India adopt hydrogen solutions efficiently.
