24/7 Water for Hubballi-Dharwad: The New 2027 Goal

The Karnataka government has approved a two-year extension for the Hubballi-Dharwad 24/7 drinking water supply project, initially awarded to a private firm.

The project, which has faced multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, land acquisition challenges, and setbacks in handing over the water distribution system, was unable to meet its original timeline. While the company had sought an extension until June 2028, the government has set a new deadline requiring the continuous water supply to be operational by June 2027.

Savita Katigennavar, Superintending Engineer at Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), noted that as of December 2025, only 55% of the project has been completed since its launch in March 2020. “The challenge now is to complete the remaining 45% within the stipulated timeframe,” she said. Key infrastructure, including water pipelines and purification units, is nearing completion, with major milestones expected over the next two to three months.

Once completed, the project will provide tap connections to 120,586 households, of which 34,211 are already connected.
