PMAY-U 2.0 Accelerates: Nearly 2.35 Lakh New Homes Sanctioned!

The Union Government has approved the construction of 2,34,864 new houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), bringing the total number of homes sanctioned under this second phase of the scheme to nearly 7,10,000. The decision was taken during the third meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), chaired by Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Srinivas Katikithala, and attended by senior state officials and mission directors.

“The proposals approved today reflect our commitment to inclusive and affordable housing in urban India,” said Katikithala. He urged major states to craft dedicated affordable housing policies and align them with the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) component of the mission. The newly sanctioned homes span nine states: Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. The majority fall under the Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) and AHP categories.

Under the revamped PMAY-U 2.0, aimed at extending housing benefits to an additional one crore urban families, eligible low-income and economically weaker section households receive financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh per housing unit. The scheme specifically targets families who do not own a pucca house anywhere in India.
