Patna is set to introduce its first Water Metro service, connecting Digha Ghat to Kangan Ghat, marking a major step toward sustainable urban mobility.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ₹908 crore was signed between Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) Chairman Sunil Kumar Singh and Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) Managing Director Nand Kishore during an event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.
The project envisions a modern, safe, and eco-friendly urban water transport system, featuring state-of-the-art hybrid electric catamaran vessels, including the fully air-conditioned ‘MV Nishadraj’. Each vessel will accommodate up to 100 passengers, with dedicated wheelchair access and the ability to operate in battery and hybrid modes—ensuring zero carbon emissions.
The initial route will cover four key stops:
Digha Paryatan Ghat, NIT Ghat, Gai Ghat, Kangan Ghat
A trial run is expected shortly, and the network will be expanded to 10 additional locations under future phases. Patna is one of 18 cities selected under the national initiative to develop urban water transport systems.
