OM System (formerly Olympus) has officially re-entered the Indian market, marking a strategic comeback after its exit in 2020. The brand, now part of OM Digital Solutions Corporation, will focus primarily on its core camera and lens portfolio, while also offering binoculars and audio devices.
Positioning India as a key growth market, OM System plans to support its return with advanced product launches, a strengthened dealer network, and a creator-centric ecosystem. Speaking on the occasion, Shigemi Sugimoto, CEO of OM Digital Solutions, emphasized India’s dynamic imaging landscape, particularly in the areas of outdoor and wildlife photography.
Vivek Handoo, Vice President & Managing Director for the Asia Pacific region, confirmed that the company will initially operate through distributors, with plans to establish a wholly owned subsidiary within 12 to 18 months. OM System estimates the Indian imaging market at USD 750 million, and aims to achieve strong double-digit growth, targeting a spot among its top five global markets within five years.
Globally, the company continues to focus on its leadership in outdoor and nature photography, leveraging its heritage and innovation to engage the next generation of photography enthusiasts
