On September 1, 2025, Tata Power-led Odisha distribution companies (discoms) launched a 1-kW rooftop solar scheme under the Government of India’s flagship PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, aimed at helping households generate approximately 100 units of electricity per month.
The initiative adopts a Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model, ensuring affordability and ease of implementation. While a typical 1-kW rooftop solar system costs between ₹65,000 and ₹75,000, consumers under this scheme will pay only a one-time amount of ₹5,000, with the remainder funded through central and state subsidies aggregated by Tata Power Odisha discoms.
The discoms will oversee end-to-end project execution, including installation, quality assurance, and after-sales service. The offering also includes a five-year warranty on system components and a 25-year warranty on solar panels.
Commenting on the launch, Gajanan S Kale, Chief of Tata Power’s Odisha distribution business, said:“With a 1-kW rooftop solar system, households can generate around 100 units of electricity per month, resulting in average annual savings of nearly ₹5,000. This not only provides consistent relief in monthly electricity bills but also advances Odisha’s renewable energy goals.”
