NLCIL and CSIR–CECRI Join Forces to Unlock India’s Critical Minerals

NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR–Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CSIR–CECRI), Karaikudi, to collaborate on the beneficiation and extraction of critical and strategic minerals.

The agreement, signed in the presence of NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, will focus on detailed studies of overburden materials and tailings generated from the company’s Neyveli mines. The objective is to evaluate the potential recovery of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) and other valuable trace minerals.

The collaboration aims to advance research and development in mineral processing technologies, supporting the extraction of critical resources that are increasingly vital for clean energy systems, advanced technologies, and strategic applications.

Through this partnership, NLCIL seeks to promote sustainable resource utilization while leveraging CSIR–CECRI’s expertise in electrochemical and mineral science research.
