The Central Government has instructed the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) to revise its proposed alignment for the Noida Airport Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS).
Under the revised plan, the corridor will originate from Sarai Kale Khan instead of Ghaziabad, following concerns that the earlier alignment lacked strong connectivity to Delhi and would generate low ridership. The previously proposed Ghaziabad–Jewar route was assessed as unsuitable for long-term requirements and would have required extensive technical modifications. The new alignment aims to prioritise seamless access to Delhi and is expected to pass through key nodes such as Noida City Centre, Surajpur, and YEIDA sectors before reaching the Noida International Airport.
According to Shailendra Bhatia, ACEO of YEIDA, “A decision has been taken to explore the feasibility of developing an RRTS corridor from Sarai Kale Khan to Noida International Airport.” He added that alternate alignments—such as via New Ashok Nagar—may also be considered if challenges arise at Sarai Kale Khan.
