Nashik's Water Future: ₹90 Crore Investment to Expand Supply

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has approved a ₹90 crore investment to upgrade and expand the city’s water distribution infrastructure, particularly targeting its rapidly growing peripheral areas.

Under this initiative, approximately 100 km of new pipelines will be laid across key localities, including Makhmalabad, Mhasrul, Adgaon, New Indira Nagar, and Pathardi. The tendering process has been completed, and construction is scheduled to begin post-monsoon this year, according to NMC officials.

The project is being implemented under the central government’s Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, with funding shared equally between the Centre and NMC.

Civic authorities noted that water from the Gangapur Dam currently fulfills about 80% of Nashik’s supply needs, with the remaining demand met by the Mukane and Darna dams. Nashik’s population has grown from around 16 lakh in 2013 to approximately 23 lakh in 2025, causing daily water demand to rise from 380 MLD to 560 MLD.

With urban expansion creating new residential zones on the city’s outskirts, the pipeline network expansion is critical to ensuring consistent water supply across all six municipal divisions. The project aims to prevent shortages, improve service delivery, and support the city’s long-term urban development plans.
