Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on January 5, 2026, reaffirmed that the State government remains committed to completing the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme with its originally approved water allocation of 90 TMC.
The Minister stated that the Congress government is strictly adhering to the government order issued by the previous BRS administration in August 2022, which clearly specified this allocation. He explained that the proposal comprised 45 TMC from savings generated through minor irrigation projects and another 45 TMC from Telangana’s share of Andhra Pradesh’s Godavari water diversions.
Although work on key links and distributary canals had been stalled earlier—delaying irrigation benefits to drought-prone districts such as Mahabubnagar and Rangareddy—the project has the capacity to irrigate more than 12.3 lakh acres once completed.
