The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two major infrastructure projects in Bihar worth ₹7,616 crore.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the construction of an 82.4 km four-lane greenfield highway between Mokama and Munger, to be built at a cost of ₹4,447.38 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). This new highway, part of the Buxar–Bhagalpur corridor, will connect Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, Munger, and Bhagalpur. The project is expected to reduce travel time to just 1.5 hours, support speeds of up to 100 km/h, and create around 3.3 million man-days of employment.
Additionally, the CCEA approved the ₹3,169 crore doubling of the 177 km Bhagalpur–Dumka–Rampurhat railway line, spanning Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The project aims to ease congestion, increase freight capacity by 15 million tonnes annually, and improve access to key pilgrimage sites like Deoghar and Tarapith. It is also expected to save 50 million litres of fuel and cut carbon emissions equivalent to planting 10 million trees.
