MG's Electric Expansion: Powering Up for Global EV Demand

MG Motor India is gearing up to expand production over the next two to three years to meet rising demand for its electric vehicles (EVs) in both domestic and select international markets.

Operating near full capacity at its Halol plant in Gujarat, the company currently produces 6,000–7,000 units per month across models, with plans to scale up to 72,000 units annually by the end of 2025—up from 60,000 in 2024. The facility, with an installed capacity of 1.1 lakh units, is running battery assembly and paint shop operations in three shifts to keep pace with demand.

“In two-three years, the plant will reach full capacity. We’re ready with blueprints for the next phase of growth, including new model rollouts and expansion,” said Biju Balendran, Deputy Managing Director, JSW MG Motor, at the launch of the MG Select experience centre in Chennai.

While MG holds around 2% of India’s overall passenger car market, it commands a 38% share in the EV segment. The compact MG Comet EV, especially popular in metro cities like Bengaluru, continues to drive strong demand. The company is also ramping up production of other EV models, including the Windsor, to cater to increasing consumer interest both locally and abroad.
