The proposed Bengaluru Metro extension to Tumakuru has taken a key step toward implementation, following an announcement by Home Minister G. Parameshwara. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), in collaboration with a Hyderabad-based firm, recently completed a feasibility study at a cost of ₹3 crore.
In the next phase, the state government has directed BMRCL to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 59.6 km extension—from Madavara on the Green Line to Tumakuru—under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The DPR preparation is also estimated to cost ₹3 crore.
Originally proposed in the 2024–25 Karnataka state budget by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the project is expected to cost ₹20,649 crore. The new metro corridor is aimed at improving connectivity between Bengaluru and Tumakuru, easing commuter travel, and fostering regional economic development.
Several private companies have expressed interest in participating, marking this extension as a major milestone in the expansion of Bengaluru’s metro network.
