Mercedes-Benz’s ₹450 Crore Bet on India’s Luxury Future

Mercedes-Benz India has commenced local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS at its Pune facility, marking a major milestone in the brand’s manufacturing journey in the country. With this move, India becomes the first market outside the United States to locally manufacture the ultra-luxury SUV.

To begin 2026, Mercedes-Benz also introduced the Mercedes-Maybach GLS Celebration Edition, priced at ₹4.10 crore. The decision to localise production is driven by rising demand for ultra-luxury vehicles, allowing for faster deliveries and improved accessibility for customers. Since its launch in June 2021, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS has emerged as one of the most aspirational luxury vehicles in India.

Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz plans to launch 12 new models in India in 2026, including all-new products, first-time offerings, and multiple facelifts. A significant share of these launches will focus on high-end vehicles and new battery electric models.

In parallel, the company will strengthen its retail footprint by adding 15 new luxury touchpoints across three emerging markets and upgrading 15 existing outlets to meet its latest architectural standards. Mercedes-Benz franchise partners are expected to invest over ₹450 crore to expand and modernise the retail network, enhancing the overall customer experience.
