Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) has awarded LOHUM the rights to restart, modernise, and operate its 50,000-tonne-per-annum (TPA) copper facility at Jhagadia, Gujarat, under a long-term revenue-sharing arrangement.
The agreement is structured as a 20-year partnership with an option to extend operations for an additional five years. The Letter of Award was presented by HCL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Kumar Singh and the company’s senior leadership team. Following modernisation and operational upgrades, the facility is expected to produce Grade-A copper cathodes with a purity level of 99.9997%, meeting stringent international quality standards.
The project is aimed at addressing rising domestic demand for copper from sectors such as power transmission, electronics, construction, electric vehicles, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure. Copper is a critical material for India’s energy transition, playing a key role in solar power systems, EV manufacturing, grid expansion, and data centre development.
With India’s copper consumption continuing to grow steadily, the revived facility is expected to strengthen domestic supply capabilities, enhance supply-chain resilience, and support industrial development. The collaboration combines HCL’s expertise in copper production with LOHUM’s capabilities in advanced materials and circular economy solutions, creating a scalable platform for supporting the country’s critical minerals and manufacturing ecosystem.
