Kazipet: The ₹521-Crore Hub Driving India's Rail Future

The ₹521.26 crore Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit is making rapid progress and is poised to become a key hub for railway exports, according to Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his site visit on July 19.

Scheduled to be operational by 2026, the facility will support India’s export ambitions, including the production of 150 indigenously built Vande Bharat trains—one of which has already been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Vaishnaw noted that civil construction is proceeding on schedule and is expected to be completed by December.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the plant will manufacture a wide range of railway products, including engines, wagons, coaches, metro cars, and 200 MEMU train rakes. These MEMU rakes will feature 16 cars each, three-phase propulsion, automatic doors, LED information displays, rooftop ventilation, and the indigenous Kavach safety system.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy emphasized that the project will create around 3,000 direct jobs, along with many more indirect employment opportunities through supporting industries.
