Kanthalloor’s Summer Shield: The ₹60 Crore Pattissery Project

The newly completed Pattissery Dam is set to significantly benefit agriculture in the Kanthalloor region of Kerala, Water Resources Minister Roshi Augustine said while inaugurating the irrigation project on March 1, 2026.

The dam is expected to ensure a dependable supply of drinking water and irrigation for farms during the summer months. Officials also indicated that administrative approval for the proposed Lower Chattam Munnar dam project is likely to be granted soon.

Constructed as part of the Chenkalar project in Kanthalloor panchayat, the Pattissery dam has been completed at a cost of ₹60.34 crore and has a storage capacity of one million cubic metres. It is projected to irrigate around 240 hectares of farmland in Kanthalloor and Keezhanthur. Work on the project began in 2014 but faced legal and diplomatic hurdles from Tamil Nadu due to its proximity to the interstate border. Construction resumed after the issues were resolved. Initially estimated at ₹24 crore, the project cost was revised multiple times before its completion.

In addition to strengthening irrigation, the dam is expected to promote tourism in the Anchunad hills, while supporting the region’s well-known cool-season vegetable cultivation and boosting the local economy.
