Kanpur Metro’s Naubasta Extension Nears the Finish Line!

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has entered the final regulatory phase for the Kanpur Central–Naubasta section of Corridor-1. Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) Nilabhra Sengupta and a five-member expert team have initiated a crucial three-day statutory safety inspection to clear the line for passenger operations.

Following a comprehensive briefing with UPMRC officials, the CMRS team conducted extensive field assessments. This included transit testing from Naveen Market to Kanpur Central and a specialized motor-trolley inspection of the underground downline tunnel and track safety compliance between Kanpur Central and Jhakarkati.

While passenger services currently span 15 km from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central, the upcoming commissioning of the Naubasta stretch will complete the 23.5 km corridor, significantly enhancing southern transit connectivity.
