Kanpur & Agra Metro: On Track for Completion

Metro rail projects in Kanpur and Agra are moving steadily toward full operational readiness, with significant advancements on both their primary and secondary corridors.

In Kanpur, the 6.7-km underground section between Central and Moti Jheel is now complete, forming a key part of the main metro corridor, which is 72% finished overall. A 15-km stretch of this corridor is already operational. Work is also progressing on the second 8.6-km corridor from Chandrashekhar Azad University to Barra, featuring a mix of elevated and underground sections. Tunnel boring is underway between Rawatpur and Double Pulia, and structural milestones like the first pier cap installation near Company Bagh Chauraha have been achieved.

In Agra, 52% of the first corridor—spanning 14.27 km from Sikandra to Taj East Gate—has been completed. A six-km operational segment already links major tourist attractions, while underground testing between Bijli Ghar and RBS College has been successfully carried out across four stations. Construction of the second 15.4-km elevated corridor from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar is ongoing, with pier and span work advancing and station structures rising along MG Road.

According to the Housing and Urban Planning Department, both cities are on track to complete their second corridors by December 2026. These projects enhance Uttar Pradesh’s growing metro network, complementing existing systems in Lucknow, Noida, and Ghaziabad, and contributing to a more connected urban transport landscape.
