The government is expected to begin issuing approvals under the ₹3,000 crore Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for electronic components within the next two to three months, likely by August or September.
Approved by the Union Cabinet on March 28, the scheme targets passive electronic components such as camera modules, connectors, and battery packs. It has received strong interest from both established companies and new entrants. A project management agency will soon be appointed to assess applications, with the submission deadline set for the end of July.
Approvals are being fast-tracked. Companies like Dixon Technologies view the scheme as a strategic opportunity, while Josh Foulger, President of Zetwerk Electronics, noted that although the ecosystem may take 18–24 months to fully develop, the initiative is a step in the right direction for boosting domestic value addition and technology growth.
