India's Air Defence Gets a ₹2,000 Crore Boost

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a ₹2,000 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) for the supply of advanced Air Defence Fire Control Radars to the Indian Army.

These state-of-the-art radars, developed indigenously with at least 70% local content, are designed to detect a wide range of aerial threats, including fighter jets, attack helicopters, and drones. The procurement supports India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

The acquisition represents a key step in the modernization of the Army’s Air Defence Regiments, significantly enhancing their surveillance and engagement capabilities. The MoD also highlighted the contract’s broader impact, noting its potential to drive domestic industry growth and generate employment.
