The Telangana Cabinet has approved the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2B project, a major urban mobility initiative developed in collaboration with the Central government. With an estimated cost of ₹19,579 crore, this phase will span 86.1 km across three strategic corridors, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity throughout Hyderabad.
Corridor-1: Shamshabad Airport to Future City – 39.6 km
Corridor-2: Jubilee Bus Station to Medchal – 24.5 km
Corridor-3: Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet – 22 km
Officials have stated that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these corridors will be submitted to the Central government for approval and joint implementation. Minister Srinivas Reddy has urged Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar to expedite the Centre’s clearance and financial support.
Phase 2B will complement Phase 2A, which covers 76.4 km across five routes at an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore. Currently under Central review, both phases together will create a 162.5 km metro network across eight corridors, with a combined investment of ₹43,848 crore. The comprehensive expansion is expected to significantly enhance public transport access, particularly to Shamshabad Airport and Hyderabad’s northern suburbs.
