Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has announced the approval of two major medium irrigation projects, totaling ₹558 crore, by the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Both projects will be implemented in Kangra district and are aimed at providing assured irrigation to approximately 160 villages—enhancing agricultural productivity and benefiting thousands of farmers. The first project, the ₹219 crore Sukhaahar Medium Irrigation Project in the Jawali Assembly Constituency, will irrigate 2,186 hectares across 45 villages in Jawali and Shahpur, directly impacting around 24,120 rural residents.
The second project, worth ₹339 crore, will cover parts of the Jwalamukhi and Dehra Assembly Constituencies, benefiting 116 villages. These initiatives focus on improving water-use efficiency, promoting groundwater conservation, and encouraging crop diversification.
Deputy CM Agnihotri, who also oversees the Jal Shakti Department, stated that efforts are underway to secure financial sanctions, with an expedited timeline planned to commence construction at the earliest.
