IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a joint Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AI-CoE). Backed by a ₹330 crore grant under the Ministry of Education’s “Make AI in India, Make AI Work for India” initiative, the centre aims to develop cutting-edge AI solutions to enhance the accessibility, affordability, and quality of healthcare, with a special focus on underserved and remote communities.
The AI-CoE will serve as the primary body for implementing the government-funded initiative and will function as a national and international hub for AI-driven healthcare research, innovation, and capacity building.
“This MoU marks the beginning of transformative research that could redefine healthcare in India,” said Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi. Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, added, “We are proud to shape this national centre of excellence and hope our efforts will significantly improve lives across the country.”
The centre will be co-led by Dr. Krithika Rangarajan of AIIMS Delhi and Prof. Chetan Arora of IIT Delhi. “We are excited to drive the integration of healthcare and technology, with a strong emphasis on patient-centric innovation,” said Dr. Rangarajan.
