Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) has secured a tunnel construction contract valued at ₹901 crore from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), reinforcing its presence in railway infrastructure development.
The contract has been awarded to the HCC–VCCL Joint Venture, in which HCC holds a 65 per cent stake. The project involves the construction of New Tunnel 28 on the Tupul–Imphal new broad-gauge railway line, a strategically important connectivity project in the Northeast region.
The scope of work includes the construction of a 3.5-kilometre-long main tunnel, along with comprehensive design, engineering, and commissioning activities. This includes the design and proof-checking of a ballast-less broad-gauge track, followed by the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of all systems and structures required for railway operations.
Additionally, the contract covers the design, supply, erection, and commissioning of tunnel ventilation systems, complete electro-mechanical works, and the development of approach roads and other ancillary infrastructure to ensure seamless project integration. The company has not disclosed the project completion timeline.
As of November 2025, transport infrastructure projects accounted for approximately 63 per cent of HCC’s total order book, which stood at ₹13,152 crore.
