Gujarat Shines Brighter: Involt Kicks Off 1.78 GW Solar Cell Factory

Involt Energy has officially commenced construction of its first solar cell manufacturing facility in Rajkot, Gujarat. The state-of-the-art plant will have an initial production capacity of 1.78 GW and is scheduled for commissioning by June 2026. Designed as a fully automated facility, it will incorporate advanced guided vehicle systems and utilize high-efficiency TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) technology.

The factory will produce G12R TOPCon solar cells (182mm x 210mm), boasting efficiencies between 25.3% and 25.4%, with maximum power outputs ranging from 9.5 to 9.7 watts. Involt also has plans to scale the site with an additional 3 GW of solar cell capacity and 3 GW of wafer production to meet India’s rapidly increasing renewable energy needs.

“Involt is committed to accelerating India’s clean energy transition. By adopting cutting-edge TOPCon technology and scaling local manufacturing, we aim to reduce import reliance and strengthen the nation’s energy security,” said Darshit Bhoraniya, Managing Director of Involt Energy.

In line with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) guidelines, the facility will adhere to the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) policy, which mandates the use of undiffused wafers. This ensures that essential processes such as diffusion, printing, and metallisation are completed domestically, bolstering India's solar manufacturing ecosystem.
